Viraj or Dumas?
The Viraj has a standing collar, so it removes the question of a tie entirely and reads as something between a jacket and an overshirt. The Dumas has a notch lapel and will take a tie when the day turns formal. If you want one jacket for a week that never gets truly formal, take the Viraj. If you need one that can be dressed up at short notice, take the Dumas.
A jacket or a suit?
If your week rarely calls for a full suit, a jacket and separate trousers will get several times the wear and cost less to start. Most clients who arrive asking for a second suit leave having ordered a jacket instead, and we will say so at the appointment rather than sell you the larger thing.
What we check at the fitting
The shoulder first, because it is the one thing that cannot be altered afterwards. Then how the jacket sits when you are seated and when you are driving, which is where most ready-made jackets pull. Then the sleeve length against the shirt cuff, and the length of the jacket itself against your hand.
