What should I look for in a tuxedo tailor in Gurgaon?
Whoever you choose, ask five questions before you pay anything:
- Is the jacket canvassed or fused? A half-canvas or full-canvas jacket moulds to you and keeps its shape. A fully fused one is stiffer and can bubble after dry cleaning.
- What are the lapels faced in? It should be silk satin or grosgrain. A shiny synthetic facing is the quickest giveaway of a cheap tuxedo.
- Do the trousers have side adjusters and a side stripe? A tuxedo trouser has no belt loops.
- Is there a fitting before delivery? You want to see the garment on you before it is finished.
- Will I know the full price and the delivery date before I order? If not, walk away.

How long does it take to make a tuxedo?

Do I have to visit a shop to get measured?

What happens at a tuxedo appointment?
The first appointment takes about an hour. It covers:
- What the tuxedo is for: the invitation, the dress code, and whether you will wear it again.
- The cut: peak lapel or shawl collar, single-breasted or double-breasted.
- The cloth: black or midnight blue, and the weight for the season.
- Measurements, and notes on how you like clothes to sit.

Two things help: the shoes you plan to wear, since they set the trouser length, and a shirt that already fits you well.
Should I rent a tuxedo, buy one off the rack, or have one made?
- Rent if you will wear it once. It is the cheapest single evening, and nobody will ask where it came from.
- Buy off the rack if you are a standard size and have a tailor for the sleeves and hem.
- Have one made if you will wear it three times or more, or if off-the-rack jackets never fit your shoulders. By the third evening a made-to-measure tuxedo has usually cost less per wear than hiring, and it fits.
