What does beach wedding attire mean for men?
It means the same level of formality as any wedding, in lighter clothes. You still dress for the couple, but you swap wool for linen, dark for light, and a tie for an open collar. The cloth has to breathe, the colours have to hold up in strong sun, and the shoes have to cope with sand.
Can I wear a suit?

Which fabrics, and which to avoid
- Wear: linen, cotton-linen, seersucker, lightweight cotton, and tropical wool for the evening.
- Avoid: wool flannel, tweed, velvet, satin, polyester and anything fully lined. Salt air, humidity and heat will punish all of them.

Shoes on sand
Suede or soft leather loafers, worn with invisible socks or none, are the answer to almost every beach wedding. Espadrilles work for daytime events. Formal oxfords sink and scuff. Barefoot ceremonies happen, so check the invitation before packing.
Travelling with it
- Pack the suit in a garment bag and hang it as soon as you arrive.
- Ask the hotel for a steamer. Never press linen flat with a hot iron.
- Wear the trousers once on their own and the jacket once over jeans: a linen suit earns its place over a long weekend.
Groom or guest?
